1- the only times we had to run to the market; for more butter.
five hours of making, baking, soaking, and layering later... and their's still no final cake. my gal pal and i neglected to read that this Apple Pie Cake required an overnight freeze, because who reads instructions all the way to completion?
One amazing thing about the momofuku milk bar cookbook is the vast amount of recipes within a recipe. for a typical milk bar cake their can be 4-5 recipes; one for the cake, the soak, the frosting layer, the crumb layer, and if their is a filling you might have two more recipes within that. so imagine reading up on those various 4-5 or 6 recipes to finally get to production and realize you didn't read the details about an overnight freeze and time included to thaw...
We assembled and baked as directed. the following day I took said cake into work and we divided this 6" monster of goodness and devoured privately in our own homes. recipe posted at the bottom.
